What is a HotSpot?

A portable Wi-Fi hotspot is a device that you can use to connect to the internet. Our HotSpots can be used anywhere there is T-Mobile coverage. A Wi-Fi HotSpot can provide wireless internet for your device (cell phone, tablet, computer).

How to get a HotSpot

Patrons in good standing may check out a HotSpot for free at their library Circulation Desk.

Reserving a HotSpot

HotSpots can be reserved for pickup. These devices have a borrowing period of 3 weeks and cannot be renewed.

Lucky Day

Lucky Day HotSpots cannot be reserved and are only available via the Circulation Desk. These devices have a borrowing period of 7 days and cannot be renewed. When returned, a wait time of 24 hours is required before checking the device out again.

Centre County Library & Historical Museum reserves the right to deny circulation of this device to any patron for any reason.

Important Notes

HotSpots can be borrowed for free, but if they are lost, or returned damaged, the replacement cost of the damaged parts will be assessed and charged to your account in addition to a $10 processing fee. The total cost of all parts lost or damaged is $155.

Internet connection quality and data transfer speeds can be affected by a variety of things, and the library makes no guarantees on quality of service.

Internet content filtering is not provided with the HotSpot. The borrowing patron assumes all responsibility and liability for all use of the HotSpot.

Some HotSpots are 4G and some are 5G.

How to Use a HotSpot

Turning the Hotspot on and off:

Holt the power key for 3 seconds to power the device on/off.

Connect to the wi-fi Network:

The network name is listed on the tag in the HotSpot’s Case.

Enter the Password:

The password is listed on the tag in the HotSpot’s case.

If you need to reboot, hold the Power key for 10 seconds to restart the device.

**Please do not Factory Reset the device.

If you reset the device to defaults, you will not have the information you need to use the device. If you have already done this, please return to the library and let us know so that we can properly set-up the device for the next patron. No fee will be assessed against your account for this.

Returning the HotSpot

Make sure that all of the parts are returned in the case: HotSpot, AC Adapter, Case with tags, USB cable. Do not return the device into the book drop. Please return the device, in the case, directly to the Circulation Desk.

Centre County Library & Historical Museum is able to lend HotSpots because of generous support from the Centre Foundation.
